Total Solar Eclipse 2027 in Egypt: Where and When to Watch

Everything you need to plan for the total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027 in Egypt: times, totality in Luxor and Siwa, safety and eclipse tours.

On Monday 2 August 2027 the Moon will pass directly in front of the Sun and turn day into night across a narrow band of North Africa and the Middle East. Egypt sits right in the middle of that band, and near Luxor the total phase lasts more than six minutes – one of the longest totalities seen from land this century.

Where in Egypt can you see totality?

The path of totality crosses Egypt from the Libyan border to the Red Sea. It passes over Siwa Oasis in the Western Desert, then Sohag, Luxor, Edfu and Kom Ombo along the Nile, before reaching the Red Sea coast. Cairo, Alexandria and Hurghada are outside the path and will only see a partial eclipse, so it is worth travelling to Luxor or Siwa for the full experience.

Our eclipse trips

We run two special departures for the eclipse. From the Red Sea, a day trip takes you to Luxor and back to your resort the same evening. From Cairo, a three-day trip takes you to the quiet desert of Siwa Oasis, with two nights in the oasis.

How to watch the eclipse safely

  • Use certified eclipse glasses (ISO 12312-2) for all partial phases – we provide them on our trips.
  • Never look at the Sun through a camera, binoculars or telescope without a proper solar filter.
  • Remove your glasses only during totality, when the Sun is completely covered, and put them back on as soon as the first light returns.
  • Supervise children closely throughout the eclipse.

Weather and what to bring

August is high summer in Upper Egypt. Expect very hot days and clear skies, which is good news for eclipse viewing. Bring a wide hat, light long-sleeved clothing, sunscreen and plenty of water – our vehicles carry bottled water, and we choose viewing sites with access to shade wherever possible.

Book early

Hotels in Luxor and Siwa are limited and eclipse travellers from all over the world are already planning their trips. Send us a request now to hold your place; we confirm availability and the final price before you pay anything.
